Dahi Papdi Chaat is also called Papdi Chaat. Papdi chaat is a delicious snack from India made with crispy flour called papdi, boiled chickpeas, potatoes, yogurt, spices, and chutneys.
You can make the papdi at home or buy them from the store. Baking the papdi instead of deep frying them can make the dish healthier. I first tried papdi chaat in a restaurant in Mumbai and loved it. I usually make other types of chaat at home, but decided to try making papdi chaat and it turned out great.
You can also add urad dal fritters to the dish if you have time. Making papdi chaat at home is easy and tastes just as good as the restaurant version.
Papdi Chaat Recipe Ingredients
For Papdi Dough
- 1 cup Maida
- ½ cup Wheat flour
- 2 tbsp Gram flour
- Salt
- ½ tsp Ajwain
- Ghee
- water as required
Chickpeas and potatoes for cooking
- 1 cup dried chickpeas
- salt
- 1 medium sized potato
- 2 cups water for cooking the chickpeas
Preparation of the Papdi Chaat
- 24 –30 flour papdi
- 1 cup of curd
- 1 medium onion chopped
- Medium tomato chopped
- Coriander leaves chopped
- ½ cup Mint-Coriander Chutney
- ½ cup tamarind chutney
- Kashmiri red chili powder
- Roasted cumin (jeera)
- Chaat masala
- Black salt
- pomegranates Seeds
- Boiled Corn
- Grated carrot
- sev for garnish
For Green Chutney
- 1 cup mint leaves chopped
- ½ cup coriander leaves chopped
- 1 green chili chopped
- Ginger Chopped
- lemon juice
- salt as per taste

For Tamarind Chutney
- ½ cup tamarind (imali)
- jaggery (Gud)
- Dry ginger powder (ground ginger)
- Coriander Powder (Dhania)
- cumin powder (jeera)
- red chilli powder
- 2 cups water add as required
- salt add as required
Method of Papdi Chaat Serving
- First, place papdi on a serving plate.
- Add 3 tablespoons each of potato and chickpea(optional) on top.
- Add two tablespoons of minced onions and green chilli as well.
- Now sprinkle 3 tablespoons of whipped curd over it.
- Add salt, chaat masala, cumin powder, and chilli powder.
- Add one tablespoon each of onion and tomato as well.
- Add 1 tsp of tamarind chutney on top of the papdi.
- Add 1 tsp each of green chutney, and more curd at this point.
- Sprinkle one teaspoon of boiled corn, grated carrot, pomegranate seeds, and coriander on top, along with one tablespoon of sev.
- Lastly, savour a hot cup of tea and dahi papdi chaat.
Expert Advice for papdi Chaat
Healthier papdi: Baking papdis rather than frying them is a healthier option. Less oily papdi will come from this. Add fruits like raw, unripe mango or pomegranate seeds, as well as vegetables or legumes like cooked moong sprouts, grated carrots, or beets, to make papdi chaat even more nutrient-dense.
Serve: Serve the papri chaat immediately for optimal results. It will turn mushy and less tasty if you leave it out for a few minutes.
Replacements: Boondi can be used in place of pakoris if you don’t have any. Soak the boondi in water and squeeze out the excess water before adding it to the papdi chaat.

Instructions
For Fried Papdi Dough
- Add Maida, wheat flour, gram flour, salt, carom seeds, and ghee toa bowl and mix well until the mixture resembles bread crumbs.
- Now gradually add water and knead dough until it is medium hard. Leave covered for a minimum of fifteen to twenty minutes.
- Once it has sufficiently rested, divide the dough into appropriate amounts and roll it out so that it is thin yet somewhat thicker than roti.
- Next, use a fork to pierce it and cut it into little rounds using any round tool.
- Fry them till crispy and golden brown in medium-hot oil. Place on the absorbent paper and set aside to be used later.
